Issues of International Trade holds a unique advantage, offering teachers a wealth of current events material to captivate student interest. While economic reasoning doesn’t provide all the solutions, it does serve as a powerful tool for critical thinking, bringing clarity to the discussion of current events.

The ability to determine comparative advantage through opportunity cost, the ability to identify incentives and predict resulting behavior, and the ability to use supply and demand analysis of particular labor and resource markets, all equip students to set aside the emotional aspects of international trade issues and navigate through the media’s rhetoric. This seminar is designed to offer practical examples and classroom activities that enable students to construct a solid foundation for their own informed opinions on current news topics.

This One Day Seminar qualifies for one graduate hour credit in economics from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs for an additional fee. The professional development will be delivered by the Foundation for Teaching Economics and hosted by Michigan Council on Economic Education and Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan.

A $20 deposit will be collected upon registration and refunded to all who attend upon conclusion of the professional development.
