The 2024 Michigan Economics Challenge will be an in-person event from 8am-Noon on Monday, April 15, 2023 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago - Detroit Branch. Breakfast will be provided and lunch will be available at the conclusion of the event.

Teachers will create their participating teams in preparation for the State Finals event. Teachers can choose their own teams as they see fit. If teachers are looking for an assessment to rank students by performance, they may consider using the Test of Economic Literacy https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rDa3yoeLYusgcz69r6uZ9DZk89yYQyVf?usp=sharing or any other measurement they desire. Each school may APPLY for up to 4 teams in each division to participate in the State Finals. The teams should consist of a minimum of 3 students with a maximum of 4 students per team. The number of teams per school that are accepted to compete in the State Finals event will depend upon the number of applications received. Each school that applies will receive a bid for at least one team per division to participate. This application will close on April 1 at 5:00pm. The final roster of teams invited to participate in the State Finals will be announced and emailed to all teachers on April 2, 2023. At that time we will collect the names of the participating students from each school and any dietary restrictions, etc.

There will still be an Adam Smith division for those who have taken an AP/IB Economics course and a David Ricardo division for everyone else. During the State Finals, students will participate in 3 rounds of testing. Upon conclusion of testing, the top two teams in each division will face off in a quiz bowl to determine the Michigan state champion. Each participant on a state championship team will be awarded a $250 cash prize on the day of the competition and have the opportunity to qualify for the national championship competition as the Michigan representative in the national semi-finals competition. Door prizes will also be awarded to participating students on the day of the event.

Completing this form is a commitment to have your students participate in the 2024 Michigan Economics Challenge State Finals on April 15, 2023. Please consider making it an all-day event and allowing your students to compete in the Personal Finance Challenge State Finals on the same day! The Personal Finance Challenge State Finals will conclude by 3:00pm.

If you would like to make changes or additions to your submission you may email Derek D'Angelo (derek@michiganecon.org).
