June 3, 2021: National Finals (virtual)
The 2021 Michigan Personal Finance Challenge will be a virtual event. We will be doing things a bit differently this year due to the inability to meet face to face. Teachers will create their participating teams during the spring in preparation for an April 24 State Finals event. Note the date is on a Saturday so it doesn't interfere with the school day.
There will be no qualifying test prior to the State Finals event. Each teacher will be able to create one team that will be allowed to participate in the State Finals on April 24. It is suggested you use a case study from a previous year with your students to determine your strongest participants for the state finals. The team should consist of a minimum of 3 students with a maximum of 4 students per team. On April 24, students will join a Zoom meeting and be provided the 2021 case study. Teams will have 3 hours to work in a Zoom breakout room to create their presentation. Teams will then deliver presentations to a panel of judges on Zoom. The judges will determine the the top two teams to face off in a quiz bowl broadcast on Facebook Live to determine the Michigan state champion.
Please complete registration using the link above so we can continue to communicate with you about the Personal Finance Challenge. We will ask for the names of participating students around the middle of April.
If you sign up to participate prior to April 1 you will be eligible for our $100 Amazon gift card teacher incentive program. The Michigan Personal Finance Challenge is sponsored by the Michigan Credit Union Foundation and credit union financial educators may be available to assist you and your students.
When you sign up to participate in the Michigan Personal Finance Challenge, a credit union representative may reach out to you to see if they can be of any assistance. If you have a credit union representative work with your students in any capacity you will receive the $100 Amazon gift card.
The credit union representative could be a guest speaker in your class whether you are face to face, hybrid, or fully remote. They could be a judge for your class if you have your students present a case study from a previous year. They could help coach a team of students after school who desire to participate in the challenge. Once that interaction has happened simply email MCEE and let us know who you worked with and you will be sent a $100 Amazon gift card. Quantities are limited so the faster you act the better!
The Michigan Personal Finance Challenge is an opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their knowledge of Personal Finance by competing with other students across the state.
Every Michigan teacher will have the opportunity to have their students participate in the 2021 Personal Finance Challenge State Finals.
